Fruit From the Root

We have talked about the good fruit and the bad fruit before. In my prayer time, not in words but in my mind’s eye, I saw a plant cut off at the ground. It came to me that when a plant is completely cut off and it begins to grow back, it always comes back bearing what the root is.That is so simple, but I knew it was the Lord showing me something, something spiritual.

He reminded me of the walnut tree in my back yard. It was a walnut tree. I had the tree cut down. The root was not dead so it begin to grow back, it came back in its natural state, a pure  Walnut tree. Weeds in the yard, chopped off, came back according to what the root was. Then I had Hollyhocks all around the yard. In the fall, they died back to the ground and I cut them off at the ground and before I knew it they had grown back as winter plants. We had that awful snow and freeze, that lasted for days. The Hollyhocks completely froze and turned brown and fell to the ground.  When the sun came back I was amazed, they grew new big green leaves like wild again. I raked all the old dead leaves off from around them and now they already have buds and will be blooming before spring, from their old steadfast roots. The Tree, the weeds, the flowers, as long as the roots are alive the plant comes back!

As the people were coming to be baptized by John the Baptist, he noticed some that were coming to be baptized for the wrong reason [wrong roots wrong motives]. John said; “who warned you to flee from the wrath to come [coming for fire insurance]. Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance” Then He said “And now also the ax is laid at the root of the trees: every tree therefore which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire” [Luke 3:7-9].People are likened to trees or plants in the bible. People, who live a lifestyle of sin, bringing forth not good fruit, will be cut off and cast into the fire. “Wherefore by their fruit you shall know them”[Matt. 7:20]. Actions, attitudes, personalities or influences that are not God, are the bad fruit. Trying to be good, putting on a front, just covering up does not work. We have to kill the sin root or it, the sin root, will just keep on making sin. When we see one of those actions that is not God, we stop, repent, ask forgiveness, give it to Jesus and turn from the sinful ways [repent], making an effort, never to do it again.

Jesus is from the root of Jessie, so “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,  peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law and they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lust”[Gal.5:22-23]. In order to have no law, we know we have crucified the flesh with its addictions. We also know that trees need nourishment, so we fertilize, water and stir the soil. In other words we feed ourselves with the word, prayer and praise!

“For if the first fruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. [Rom.11:16]. If we give the first of our time to the Lord, it will be blessed, our whole day, will be blessed. The same-- first day of our week, the first day of our month, the first of our finances, the first of our service or labor, all will be blessed. How much blessing do we want. Jesus is the root of the true believers, our root is Holy and we are the branches; the world will know us by our fruit. Let us be a good representative of our “Fruit From The Root.”
